My name is Amy Murtagh, and I am absolutely thrilled to be joining The Catholic Academy of Stamford as a Fifth Grade Teacher this fall! My journey to CAS was a wonderful blessing: I originally walked through the doors as a proud mom bringing my daughter Emily for her Kindergarten assessment. While there, I was asked if I might be interested in applying for a fifth-grade opening … and the rest is history! Now, my daughter and I are both eager to start our first year at CAS together this fall.
I bring 14 years of elementary teaching experience to CAS, having spent over a decade within the Westport Public Schools. I am dedicated to fostering a classroom culture where academic excellence and character formation grow hand-in-hand. I aim to implement rigorous instruction alongside differentiation to ensure that every unique learner reaches their highest academic potential. Fifth grade is such a special year for growth, and I place a strong emphasis on helping children build real independence. I love actively coaching my students in critical executive functioning skills, time management, and organized work habits, encouraging them to take proud ownership of their schoolwork and feel prepared for the road ahead! Finally, my own Catholic background and Jesuit education at Boston College instilled in me a deep belief in Cura Personalis, or caring for the whole person. To me, teaching is about helping kids become good people, so I love fostering a supportive space where values like community, service, and kindness naturally thrive.
Outside of school, I live right here in Stamford and wear two other proud titles: military wife to my husband, John (a Major in the Marine Corps), as well as mom of two (daughter Emily, and one-year-old son Rory). I can’t wait to meet my new students, build a fantastic classroom community, and kick off a wonderful year of growing and learning together!
